Description
Unstable Unicorns is a strategic card game where players compete to build an army of unicorns. Often described as a game that “destroys friendships—in a good way,” it combines cute artwork with aggressive, “take-that” style gameplay focused on destruction and betrayal.
Objective
The primary goal is to be the first player to collect a specific number of unicorns in your “Stable” (your play area).
2–5 Players: Requires 7 unicorns to win.
6–8 Players: Requires 6 unicorns to win.
Gameplay Mechanics
Players start with one Baby Unicorn and a hand of five cards. Each turn typically follows four phases:
Beginning of Turn: Activate any card effects that trigger at the start of a turn.
Draw Phase: Draw one card from the deck.
Action Phase: Either play one card from your hand (Unicorn, Magic, Upgrade, or Downgrade) or draw an additional card.
End of Turn: Discard down to the hand limit (usually 7 cards).
Unicorns: The building blocks of your army. Magical Unicorns have special abilities, while Basic Unicorns generally do not.
Magic Cards: One-time use cards with immediate powerful effects, such as stealing or destroying opponents’ unicorns.
Upgrades & Downgrades: Persistent cards placed in a Stable to grant positive bonuses (Upgrades) or negative penalties (Downgrades).
Instant Cards (Neighs): Can be played at any time—even during an opponent’s turn—to stop someone from playing a card. “Neigh” cards can also be “Neighed” in return.
