Description
Carcassonne is a world-famous, award-winning tile-placement board game inspired by the medieval fortress city of the same name in southern France. Designed by Klaus-Jürgen Wrede and first published in 2000, it is widely considered a “modern classic” and a perfect “gateway game” for those new to the hobby.
The game is played on an ever-expanding board that players build themselves, one tile at a time.
Tile Placement: On each turn, you draw a terrain tile (depicting parts of cities, roads, monasteries, or fields) and must place it adjacent to already-played tiles, ensuring all features match up—cities to cities, roads to roads, etc..
Deploying Meeples: After placing a tile, you may place one of your limited wooden followers, known as “meeples,” on a feature of that tile to claim it.
Scoring Roles: Depending on where they are placed, meeples take on different roles to score points:
Knights: Placed in cities.
Thieves/Travelers: Placed on roads.
Monks/Nuns: Placed in monasteries.
Farmers: Placed in fields (these stay on the board until the very end for final scoring).
Strategic Majority: While only one meeple can be placed on a feature at a time, clever tile placement allows separate features to eventually merge. In these cases, the player with the most meeples on the completed feature wins all the points.
