Description
Munchkin is a satirical, award-winning card game designed by Steve Jackson Games that parodies traditional tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons. Its famous tagline sums up the gameplay: “Kill the monsters, steal the treasure, stab your buddy”.
Core Gameplay & Objective
The Goal: The first player to reach Level 10 wins.
Kicking Down Doors: On your turn, you draw a card from the “Door” deck. You might encounter a monster to fight, a curse to suffer, or a helpful race or class card to improve your character.
Combat: You defeat monsters if your Level plus your bonuses from equipment (like the Horny Helmet or Boots of Butt-Kicking) is higher than the monster’s level.
Player Interaction: You can ask others for help in a fight for a share of the treasure—or you can hinder them by buffing the monster they are fighting to stop them from winning.
Key Features
Humour: The game is known for its absurd items and monsters, such as the Chainsaw of Bloody Dismemberment or fighting a Potted Plant.
Backstabbing: A core mechanic involves “stabbing your friends” by playing curses or helping monsters to prevent rivals from reaching the winning level.
Visuals: Features iconic, goofy artwork by John Kovalic.
